This Privacy Policy describes how Piply (operated by Reuel, LLC) ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use the Piply website at piply.ai, the Piply web application at app.piply.ai, and our iOS and Android mobile applications (collectively, the "Service"). This policy applies to all users of our Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Authentication data: Your email address, display name, and profile photo. We support email/password, Google, and Apple sign-in.
  • Profile information: Your username, first name, last name, educational level, institution, and subject areas of interest.

1.2 Content You Provide

When you use our learning features, we collect and process:

  • Course materials: Documents, PDFs, slide decks, and other files you upload to create workspaces. These are stored in secure cloud object storage.
  • AI-generated content: Quizzes, flashcard sets, mind maps, deep research results, and assignment solutions generated from your materials using AI.
  • Study notes and highlights: Annotations and highlights you create within the document reader.
  • Chat and community messages: Messages you send in community chat rooms and shared study sessions.

1.3 Study Activity and Usage Data

  • Study sessions: Start/end times, duration, and session type (solo or group) when you use study session tracking.
  • Scheduled sessions: Study session schedules you create, including timetable data you import.
  • Audio participation: When you join audio rooms in group study sessions, we process audio streams in real time. We may store session recordings if you or the host enable recording.
  • Gamification data: Streaks, XP, achievements, leaderboard positions, and game scores (word games, arcade games).
  • App interaction data: Pages viewed, features used, buttons clicked, and navigation patterns collected through our analytics tools.

1.4 Device and Technical Data

  • Device tokens: Push notification tokens for delivering notifications to your device.
  • Platform information: Device type, operating system, app version, and browser type.
  • Connection data: IP address, approximate location (country-level), and WebSocket connection metadata for real-time features.

1.5 Payment and Subscription Data

  • Subscription status: Your plan type (free or premium), subscription provider, and entitlement state.
  • Mobile purchases: If you subscribe via iOS or Android, purchases are processed by Apple or Google through their respective app stores. We receive subscription events (purchase, renewal, cancellation) but do not directly handle your payment card details.
  • Web purchases: If you subscribe via web, payments are handled by a PCI-compliant payment processor. We store your customer ID and subscription status but do not store full card numbers.

1.6 Social and Community Data

  • Friend connections: Friend requests, accepted connections, and associated user IDs.
  • Community membership: Communities you join or create, including roles and school associations.
  • Referral data: If you participate in our affiliate or referral program, we track referral attributions and commission events.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the Service: Create and manage your account, process your uploaded materials, generate AI-powered study content, facilitate group study sessions, and deliver real-time collaboration features.
  • Personalize your experience: Recommend study content, surface relevant quizzes, and tailor the home feed and daily plans to your courses and activity.
  • Process payments: Manage your subscription, validate premium entitlements, and process refunds.
  • Send notifications: Deliver in-app notifications, push notifications (study reminders, session invitations, friend requests, achievement alerts), and transactional emails.
  • Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns, diagnose technical issues, measure feature adoption, and develop new features.
  • Maintain safety: Detect abuse, enforce rate limits, prevent unauthorized access, and comply with legal obligations.
  • Run scheduled maintenance: Clean up unused resources, reset usage limits, process leaderboard distributions, and send study reminders.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following circumstances:

  • With other users: Your username, display name, profile photo, and public study stats are visible to other users in communities, leaderboards, friend connections, and shared study sessions. Course materials you mark as public may be visible through the Explore feature.
  • Service providers: We use trusted third-party services to operate the platform across the following categories:
    • Authentication and identity management
    • Cloud hosting and database infrastructure
    • Content delivery and file storage
    • AI content generation
    • Real-time communication and audio infrastructure
    • Payment processing and subscription management
    • Product analytics
    • Email delivery and push notifications
    All service providers are contractually bound to process your data only as necessary to provide their services and in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Reuel, LLC, our users, or the public.

4. Data Storage and Retention

  • Account data and study content are stored in databases hosted in the United States.
  • Uploaded files are stored in secure cloud object storage.
  • We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention).
  • Anonymous or aggregated usage data may be retained indefinitely for analytics and service improvement.

5. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all API traffic and WebSocket connections.
  • Secure token-based authentication validated on every API request.
  • Rate limiting on API endpoints to prevent abuse.
  • Secret-validated server-to-server communication for real-time features.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access and portability: You can view your account data, study content, and activity history within the app.
  • Correction: You can update your profile information at any time through the app.
  • Deletion: You may request account deletion by contacting us at support@piply.ai. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
  • Push notifications: You can disable push notifications through your device settings or within the app.
  • Analytics opt-out: You can disable analytics tracking through the cookie consent banner on our website.
  • Subscription management: You can manage or cancel your subscription through the App Store, Google Play Store, or your account settings (depending on your subscription provider).

7. Children's Privacy

Piply is designed for students aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. 8. International Users

Our Service is operated from and data is stored in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
